On The Milky Road – Emir Kusturica

Licensing, Music Supervision

“I have directed a modern fairy tale – at the same time – and all of this was as thrilling as any movie I have made. In this film I discovered beauty, and I discovered intense, human worlds.” Emir Kusturica

Spring in wartime. Each day a milkman crosses the frontline on a donkey, dodging bullets to bring his precious wares to the soldiers. Blessed with good fortune on his mission, loved by a beautiful villager, a peaceful future seems to await him, until the arrival of a mysterious Italian woman turns his life upside down. Thus begins a story of passionate, forbidden love that will plunge them both into a series of fantastic and dangerous adventures. They have been united by fate, and nothing seems able to stop them.

Two-time Cannes Palme D’Or winner Emir Kusturica directs and stars in this story of love and war, rich in emotion, comedy and adventure. As always in his filmography, music plays a central role. With a soundtrack ranging from traditional Balkan songs and original compositions by Stribor Kusturica, to “La Piu Bella del Mondo” re-interpreted by Monica Belluci, and 80s classic “Flashdance…What a Feeling”, these eclectic choices embodied the tension between tradition and modernity, local folklore and international popular references.

On the Milky Road premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2016.
